Would Germany place more emphasis on fast armed merchant raiders to draw off the Royal Navy and attack convoys?
Short answerIt might try, but the concentrated northern patrol barrier would make detection and destruction by cruiser-destroyer hunter groups much more likely.
NotesGermany might try to compensate for lost French bases by sending more fast converted merchant raiders into the Atlantic. Those ships would still have to transit the same northern bottleneck watched by aircraft, radar, cruisers, and destroyer groups. A detected raider could be surrounded before it reached dispersed shipping lanes. Even a Sydney-Kormoran-style surprise might take one destroyer with it, but the remaining hunter-killer group would almost certainly destroy the raider.
