Warspite's machinery reconstruction multiplies endurance

A three-year reconstruction cuts the fuel required to hold 24 knots and extends Warspite's effective range without larger tanks.

Notes

Warspite underwent a major reconstruction from 1934 to 1937. At 24 knots, fuel consumption fell from about 41 tons per hour to 27 tons. A fixed quantity of fuel that once supported two hours at that speed could now last roughly three. The improvement increased high-speed endurance without larger tanks and reduced the logistical cost of moving the battleship.
