From Vulcan B3 studies to a Concorde bomber

A disputed Vulcan B3 performance claim leads into a counterfactual Concorde bomber with rotating missile bays and a fast approach-and-withdrawal concept.

Notes

A recalled Vulcan B3 proposal would use the Olympus engines associated with Concorde in newly built bombers. The suggestion that it could supercruise receives an immediate disagreement, so that performance claim remains disputed. The subsequent Concorde bomber is a counterfactual design using the passenger and cargo spaces for rotating bomb or missile bays inspired by the Buccaneer. Blue Steel and intermediate-range missiles are suggested payloads. The imagined formation would approach at Mach 2 to 2.5, fire a large missile volley, and leave before the defender could respond effectively. The proposed combination of speed and missile carriage is compared with obtaining a B-1A-like capability about a decade earlier.
