The carriers were already far enough advanced for much of their machinery and equipment to be available. Catapults, armor, flight-deck steel, and communications equipment waited beside the yards while workers were moved away. Some equipment intended for Victorious suffered damage in a dockside warehouse only a few hundred yards from the ship. The pause added rectification work as well as time spent without an assembly workforce.
