Damage control and reloading return crews to the Hybrid Navy

A question about damage control expands into the practical problem of escorting empty missile vessels to port and returning them to the task group.

Question

How will uncrewed missile and radar vessels handle battle damage?

Short answer

Automation alone is unlikely to save a damaged hull, and reloading creates a crewed escort and RFA support requirement that the plan does not fund.

Notes

Automated firefighting can buy time, but it cannot be assumed to replace sailors dealing with battle damage on a high-value radar or missile hull. VLS reloading at sea remains difficult, so empty vessels would normally have to return to port. Crewed escorts or specially equipped RFAs would still be needed to protect and control those movements, adding people, communications suites, and cost. Without that support, the task group must withdraw with its missile ships and gains little endurance from distributing the magazines.
