Doubling the displacement of an 8,000-ton design changes beam, length, draft, structure, and machinery enough to create a new hull. A Type 26-derived label would not remove the naval-architecture work required to reach 16,000 to 18,000 tons. A mature large hull such as Zumwalt's is a more plausible starting point. Its successful seakeeping platform can be separated from the troubled gun and ammunition program rather than dismissing the whole ship. The estimate allows for a core crew of about 140 and space for roughly 80 to 90 command staff or marines, alongside a deep missile battery. Those demands reinforce the need for a purpose-built large combatant.

Type 83 points toward a cruiser-sized hull
A future Type 83 with general-purpose reach is estimated at 16,000 to 18,000 tons, far beyond a simple Type 26 enlargement.
