Type 45 provides a warning against deleting power-generation and weapon margins during construction. In this account, fitting the additional generators allowed for in the design would have prevented many later power problems by providing backup capacity. The planned Mark 41 VLS provision is disputed: sixteen cells are described as the minimum, with thirty-two suggested if additional space were used. In the sixteen-cell example, eight could hold 32 quad-packed CAMM missiles alongside 48 Aster, leaving eight Mark 41 cells for longer-range weapons. This is a counterfactual weapons arrangement, not an installed Type 45 loadout. Later capability insertions recover some of the omitted capacity. The lesson drawn for Type 83 is to retain redundancy and growth space from the start.
