The design cost of an 18-inch treaty maximum

A mature capital ship in an 18-inch-limit world must divide its displacement among beam, draft, armor, machinery, and stability.

Notes

The later experiment asks what a mature battleship could look like if naval arms control accepted 18-inch guns as the ceiling. A broad beam and deep draft support the weapons and heavy protection, but machinery, secondary batteries, and armor still draw from the same displacement. The game reports persistent pitch and balance problems even after the major weights are moved near the center of mass. Those numerical effects belong to the simulation, yet the design still illustrates the naval-architecture burden created by a higher treaty calibre.
