Shipyards and technology crossed national lines

Shared personnel, designs, and British turbine technology complicate any simple picture of Britain and America preparing for war against one another.

Notes

British and American shipbuilding firms exchanged senior managers and naval architects, while British turbine technology reached several foreign fleets. John Brown's Scottish yard was led by an American while HMS Hood was under construction, giving an American citizen intimate access to Britain's newest battlecruiser program. That easy movement contrasts with the citizenship changes expected of Germans working in sensitive yards. British turbines also enabled German battlecruisers, showing that commercial technology transfer could cross even a genuine strategic rivalry and making the prewar naval-industrial world more entangled than a simple war-scare narrative suggests.
