The S-2 Tracker formed the foundation of the aircraft family that produced the Tracer. Introduced in 1954, it was the US Navy's first purpose-built, single-airframe carrier anti-submarine-warfare aircraft. Nearly 1,300 were built, and the type served with the US, Canadian, Australian, and Argentine navies. The Tracker fills the gap in a lineage often remembered only through its jet successor, the S-3 Viking.
