Which older British ships would have been most useful to retain after 1921?
Short answerModernized Town-class cruisers could have become capable, seaworthy ocean escorts.
NotesThe earlier Town-class cruisers offered a possible basis for ocean escorts after 1921. Their hulls could be maintained while the machinery received the work needed to keep them useful. In this proposal they would take some work assigned to V- and W-class destroyers, with only a modest increase in crew. Their greater seaworthiness was the main attraction.
