A torpedo-boat refit preserves weapons and gains speed

A constrained refit retains three torpedo launchers, redistributes the gun battery, and gains roughly three knots without enlarging the boat.

Notes

The torpedo-boat refit cannot add the desired minelaying capability, so it has to work within the existing small hull. All three launchers are retained, while the four-inch and two-inch guns are rearranged at the cost of a different broadside. Machinery improvements raise the boat's speed to about twenty-four knots, roughly three knots better than before. The refit preserves the craft's primary weapon and uses its limited weight for speed and secondary-fire improvements. Modernization here is a compromise rather than a complete redesign.
