A rebuilt Tiger could test a proposed 15-inch/50 weapon before that armament entered new capital ships. The F2 and F3 concepts were described as fully armored battlecruisers because their protection covered more of the hull, although their subdivision still followed battlecruiser standards. They continued the design path already visible in Tiger, approaching the fast battleship from the battlecruiser side. Tiger would therefore serve as an experimental bridge between an immediate refit and the next generation of British capital ships.
