Chapter · 11:11-12:30

A 28-knot cruiser with 9.2-inch guns

The working Tiger Cub concept uses six to eight 9.2-inch guns, 4-inch secondaries, torpedoes, and Tiger-like 28-knot speed.

Notes

The proposed ships are fast, large cruisers rather than miniature battlecruisers. The options are a six-gun arrangement or four twin turrets, with eight 9.2-inch guns as the likelier service design. Four-inch secondary guns and 21-inch torpedoes round out the battery. A target speed of 28 knots lets the class operate with Tiger, while batches of four laid down in 1912, 1913, and 1914 create a substantial force without using capital-ship armament.
