Tiger's belts and the distribution of hull weight

Tiger's armour layout shows how a heavily protected battlecruiser still differed from a battleship.

Notes

Tiger lacked the deep lower belt used in the battleship comparison. Tiger's armour layout had a thin lower strip of about one inch and a main belt reaching roughly nine inches over selected areas, with four inches forward and aft. Upper protection tapers from six inches to five and four inches in the forward areas discussed. Guns, boilers and turbines were distributed along the hull to manage structural loading and balance. Those arrangements help explain both the design's resilience and the limits of its protection.
