Tasajera survives an aerial torpedo

HMS Tasajera followed Misoa through Torch and Normandy but first survived a large aerial-torpedo hit off Algiers.

Notes

HMS Tasajera's early service paralleled Misoa's, including Operation Torch. On 17 January 1943, while making about 9 knots off Algiers, an aerial torpedo struck her starboard side amidships and opened a hole roughly 30 by 20 feet. She reached Algiers the next day, spent about three months under repair, and later returned to Britain for further work. By the Normandy landings she was again carrying Canadian armour to Juno Beach. The recovery reflects the strength of the original lake-tanker hull and the repair effort spent on scarce amphibious lift.
