Rapid repairs keep the second wave viable

A deck accident and a dangling fuel tank reduced the second wave, but quick repair work returned one damaged Swordfish to the strike.

Notes

During the second launch, deck crew removed one Swordfish's chocks too early and it rolled into another aircraft, cutting the companion's fuselage with its propeller. The damaged aircraft was lowered and repaired within about twenty minutes, using new tension wires and patches. It then launched and pushed its Pegasus engine hard to catch the formation. The Swordfish that caused the collision also took off, but a forward strap on its underslung fuel tank broke and left the tank dangling and striking the fuselage. That crew had to return to the carrier. Whether the collision caused the strap failure remains uncertain.
