The roughly 3,500-ton Tamandare carries a stated 12 Sea Ceptor/CAMM air-defense missiles. A 76 mm gun, 30 mm close-in weapons, torpedo tubes, Brazilian MANSUP anti-ship missiles and a helicopter broaden the fit. Radar, control and sonar equipment receive a favorable assessment. The missile system itself also attracts praise, while the small ready magazine draws criticism. Reducing missile numbers leaves the cost of the radar, command system, machinery and power supply largely in place.
