Turning the Iris layout into a monoplane flying boat

Blackburn adapted the Iris biplane flying boat into Britain's first large monoplane flying-boat design, changing the wing support, cockpit enclosure, and tail.

Notes

Blackburn based Britain's first large monoplane flying boat on the Iris biplane boat. A tubular-steel pylon amidships carried the wing, with the thrust line of the three engines in the same position relative to the tailplane as on the Iris. A cabin top with a sliding roof and side windows improved pilot comfort. A monoplane tail replaced the Iris's biplane tail.
