Torpedo delivery could keep the TSR a biplane

Even with a stronger engine, harbour-attack requirements could preserve a slow, stable biplane and the Swordfish's specialized low-level torpedo-release gear.

Notes

The alternate TSR does not automatically become a monoplane simply because better engines are available. British doctrine still values level, low-speed torpedo drops against ships in harbour, where the Fairey Swordfish's tension-wire system and wooden torpedo fins control the weapon's entry into the water. A faster, enclosed-cockpit descendant might therefore remain a biplane and resemble a later-mark Swordfish. The design choice follows the attack method instead of a general preference for obsolete-looking aircraft.
