Why torpedo delivery could preserve the Swordfish biplane

Accurate low-speed flight supports the torpedo-entry arrangement, leaving a role for a more powerful Swordfish-like biplane.

Notes

The Swordfish's torpedo-delivery arrangement is described as using extended wooden tail fins and a forward tension cable to control entry into the water. The cable provides enough restraint to bring the torpedo in level. Accurate delivery requires low, slow flight, which helps explain the biplane configuration. More power therefore need not remove the operational case for a biplane. A Swordfish-like aircraft with roughly twice the engine power remains a possible outcome.
