Sweden adapts the Hawker Osprey to local needs

Sweden adapts the Hawker Osprey's engines and systems to its own reconnaissance requirements and replaces components it cannot readily source.

Notes

The Hawker Osprey developed from the Hawker Hart light bomber and offered good endurance, speed, and visibility for spotting and reconnaissance. Sweden selected this British design, then changed engines and systems to suit its own requirements. The comparison with an Osprey aboard HMS Enterprise shows how Swedish aircraft differed from the British configuration. Modifying a suitable imported aircraft avoided the expense of developing a new design for a small production run. It also supported domestic manufacturing and operating experience. Components that Sweden could not easily obtain were replaced with parts it could source itself.
