The guns and torpedoes were serviceable, while the ships initially lacked sonar. Hydrophones and later wartime equipment identified as ASDIC, Type 285 fire-control radar and SG radar followed. The design target was 40 knots, and Leningrad is credited with reaching 43 knots. Forward weight made high-speed behaviour troublesome beyond flat calm, so that figure does not describe performance in every sea state. The fuel figures given are 200 tons normally and up to 600 tons at full load. Even at full load, endurance is put at about 2,100 nautical miles at 20 knots because of limited provision for efficient cruising.

Leningrad's speed, sensors and limited cruising endurance
High speed and later sensor additions did not remove Leningrad's seakeeping and endurance limitations.
