What building work reveals about shipyards and dry docks

House repairs provide a limited comparison for the teamwork, physical effort, and weather exposure involved in building shipyards and dry docks.

Notes

The personal experience of helping with recent roof, heating, plumbing, and carpentry work provides a limited comparison for historical construction. Building shipyards, dry docks, and related facilities was a different undertaking, yet both depend on teamwork and sustained physical effort. Weather also changes the character of outdoor work. The Cornish winter example involves scaffolding, while summer allows much more freedom of movement outside. The comparison gives some practical sense of the labour behind naval infrastructure without treating house repairs as equivalent to industrial construction.
