Public history as protection against repeated mistakes

Games and public collaboration matter when they draw more people into studying history and recognising its recurring mistakes.

Notes

Collaborative projects connected with historical games are attractive because the people, ships, and work are enjoyable. Their larger purpose is to make more people passionate about history, regardless of the route by which they first become interested. Historians should do more than watch others repeat old mistakes. People who understand history have a responsibility to communicate that interest widely enough to help prevent repetition.
