Carrier-borne Sea Hurricanes formed part of a 70-fighter force protecting the August 1942 convoys to Malta. Over three days, German and Italian bombers, torpedo bombers, and escorts mounted repeated attacks. The account credits the naval fighters with destroying 39 aircraft for eight naval aircraft lost, with Lieutenant R. J. Cork claiming six, although HMS Eagle was sunk by a U-boat. Converted land fighters thus contributed to fleet defence under sustained pressure as well as serving aboard CAM ships.
