Specialized sabot rounds for battleships and destroyers

A repeated answer adds Tribal-class destroyers to Nelson and Rodney as ships that might find a narrow armor-piercing use for sub-caliber ammunition.

Notes

The panel returns to the sabot question after the first answer. Nelson and Rodney remain the clearest battleship example because a smaller projectile in their 16-inch guns could improve selected ballistic characteristics. Tribal-class destroyers offer a different possibility: a 120 mm armor-piercing sabot might penetrate a light cruiser's belt or open holes near the waterline. That would give a destroyer a specialized threat against a better-protected opponent without changing its entire battery. The gain remains situational because a smaller bursting charge still limits damage after penetration.
