Scandinavian steel in the Royal Navy supply chain

Royal Navy ships could rely on Scandinavian steel even when their final construction and specialist industrial work took place in Britain.

Notes

British warship construction did not mean every material input came from Britain. A large share of Royal Navy steel came from Scandinavia even while British specialist producers remained part of the industrial base. This separates the location of final shipbuilding from the wider supply chain behind a warship. Naval industrial capacity can depend on foreign as well as domestic sources.
