A 36-escort Royal Navy force structure

A proposed 36-escort fleet uses groups of twelve destroyers, ASW frigates, and light frigates to sustain a carrier group while preserving ships for other commitments.

Notes

The proposed force has twelve Type 26 frigates, twelve Type 31 or Type 32 light frigates, and twelve Type 83 destroyers. Six Type 83s would enter service alongside the six Type 45s, with replacements beginning only as the seventh Type 83 arrived. Pools of twelve are intended to yield two ASW frigates and two destroyers for a carrier group plus comparable ships for other tasks. Eight light frigates could be forward-deployed in four pairs, with four at home for major maintenance and refit. Twelve OPVs and twelve mine-countermeasure vessels would cover their own duties, while a light frigate would also join the carrier group. This is a proposed readiness and force-structure model, not an approved procurement plan.
