Could Canada have built battlecruisers during the interwar period?
Short answerNo. Canada might have developed the capacity for cruisers, but a capital ship required a far larger and more specialized industrial base.
NotesCanadian industry could plausibly have built up the infrastructure for cruiser construction. Moving directly from little warship production to battlecruisers would have required a much larger industrial undertaking. Capital-ship construction was beyond the immediate capacity envisaged for Canada in this proposal. Gradual growth through cruisers offered a more credible starting point.
