Post-Jutland building plans complicate the battlecruiser failure story

The Royal Navy's decision to pursue Admiral- and G3-class battlecruisers after Jutland does not fit a simple story in which the type had been proven worthless.

Notes

A predetermined progression from failed battlecruisers to inevitably superior fast battleships does not fit the Royal Navy's actual response after Jutland. The Admiral class came first, followed by the G3s, while the N3 battleships remained a separate planned type. If battlecruisers had been discredited in every sense, emergency battleship construction would have been the more obvious institutional response. The construction sequence is evidence for how the navy itself interpreted Jutland's lessons.
