The later Orion class provides a check on the game's unusually thick turret armour. Its approximately 11-inch turret protection and 10-inch barbettes justify reducing the heavier defaults on the counterfactual Dreadnought. Pitch remains troublesome during these adjustments, even as space and weight become available for six-inch casemate guns. Two-inch weapons and a proposed three-inch anti-aircraft gun complete the lighter armament. Increasing barrel lengths then pushes the ship slightly overweight again, requiring another small adjustment before the trial.

Orion's armour as a check on the Dreadnought game design
Orion's protection figures expose excessive game armour defaults, while secondary guns and barrel lengths consume the weight saved.
