Why ocean-going autonomous vessels still need shipyard capacity

Oceanic operating conditions can make an autonomous craft a substantial shipbuilding requirement.

Notes

Autonomous vessels intended to protect ocean shipping need to operate in sea conditions beyond those common close to the Black Sea coast. Small Ukrainian craft therefore do not establish the size or construction requirements of every future uncrewed vessel. Larger ocean-going platforms still need suitable yards and the skills to build ships. Appledore is suggested as an existing British site that could contribute. The point is to connect the intended operating environment with industrial capacity before assuming autonomous systems can all be produced in small workshops.
