Nils Soderberg and air-industry policy

Nils Soderberg had to procure an air force while developing Sweden's own aircraft industry with little time and a limited budget.

Notes

Nils Soderberg's job joined aircraft procurement with the development of a domestic air industry. He had little time and a limited budget. Sweden treated aviation as one part of the established national defence framework rather than as an all-powerful replacement for existing forces. Domestic metallurgy, engine work, manufacturing skills, and sustainment became defence capabilities in their own right. An imperfect aircraft that Sweden could maintain or reproduce might be more useful than a superior import dependent on a vulnerable supplier.
