Born in 1876, Nicola Romeo trained as an engineer and built companies across several branches of industry. His work included mining machinery, car manufacture, railways, and aircraft, and he was among the founders of Alfa Romeo. Companies valued his engineering leadership even when others needed to handle their finances. IMAM later passed through other firms and continued as part of modern Leonardo, carrying some of that industrial lineage into Italian aerospace.
