Main-battery blast disrupted Nelson's flag facilities

The placement of Nelson's command spaces made the shock of firing the main battery a practical headquarters problem as well as a structural one.

Notes

Battleship gunfire imposed shock throughout the hull, but Nelson's arrangement placed flag and bridge spaces in a particularly difficult relationship to the main battery. Staff officers complained about trying to work while the guns were firing. Equipment and working arrangements could be disrupted even when the ship itself suffered no enemy damage. The example connects turret layout to command-and-control effectiveness rather than treating blast only as a weapons-engineering issue.
