Standard classes and screening make a fleet easier to assemble

Large classes of similar ships and plentiful escorts support British fleet coordination and reduce exposure to torpedo attack.

Notes

British shipbuilding is more continuous and organised around larger classes than that of its opponents in this comparison. Similar ships are easier to assemble into a coordinated battle fleet. Large cruiser and destroyer forces can accompany the battleships and screen them against torpedo attack. That reduces the opposing torpedo boats' numerical advantage without requiring battleships to face the boats alone. The combination gives the Royal Navy of 1904 considerable operational flexibility.
