The Strait of Hormuz provides a confined-water example where cheap drones could swarm a ship. Rapid-fire 57 mm or 76 mm guns are proposed as a way to engage small drones at a reasonable cost before they reach the hull. The recommendation is for at least four such mounts, supported by radar, electronic warfare, and countermeasures. Putting enough shells into the approach path applies a familiar Second World War principle. Jammers and guns are expected to handle many small-drone attacks, with point-defence or larger missiles available when needed.

Counter-drone guns and jammers in the Strait of Hormuz
A proposed defence against cheap drones combines several rapid-fire guns with electronic warfare and missiles, keeping cost per engagement in view.
