A shipboard MXY7 would turn short range into a fuel hazard

Mounting an MXY7 Model 22 on a scout cruiser would leave a difficult guidance problem while exposing the ship to carrier aircraft beyond the weapon's reach.

Question

Would an MXY7 Model 22 with a roughly 22-kilometer range make sense on the scout cruiser?

Short answer

No. Target detection and guidance would be difficult, while an enemy carrier could attack from much farther away and the onboard fuel would create a major hazard.

Notes

The weapon's limited reach created the first problem: detecting a ship at about 22 kilometers did not guarantee the accuracy or guidance needed to hit it. A carrier would remain well outside that distance while sending aircraft against the cruiser. Storing the weapon and its fuel on the ship would also create a conspicuous concentration of combustible material. The proposal added vulnerability without solving the scout cruiser's need to survive and report at long range.
