Why a wheeled modular EMALS is aspirational

The advertised flight-deck concept runs into alignment, maintenance, deck-clearance, and aircraft-handling problems before it becomes a practical merchant conversion.

Notes

The proposed electromagnetic catapult is assembled from several wheeled modules, which would have to maintain the exact alignment required by EMALS. Fixed installations already demand precise construction and maintenance on purpose-built carriers. A rocket-powered catapult would be a more credible alternative. The illustrated UAVs also need a crane or other handling arrangement that the promotional image omits. Lateral movement during launch, or a brief dip after leaving the rail, could send an aircraft into the ship's structure.
