French designers recognized that domestic industry had not caught up with firms such as Vickers or leading American gun manufacturers. The Model 1924 therefore used a comparatively simple autofretted tube, shrunk jacket, and breech ring rather than demanding an impractical manufacturing leap. The nominal eight-inch weapon was actually 203 mm, and later examples may have benefited from metallurgical development. Its construction shows how a navy can turn industrial constraint into a deliberate design choice instead of merely accepting a deficient weapon.
