A stronger air component for mobile naval bases

A fleet-owned air arm could make shore-based fighters and support personnel a normal part of temporary naval bases, potentially changing the defence of Crete.

Notes

The proposed sea-is-one approach extends to Royal Marines and mobile naval bases. A naval base established ashore could include fleet fighters and the personnel needed to support them. Crete provides a possible application of that integrated arrangement. Its defence could still be disrupted by changes in Army command, so the presence of naval aircraft does not guarantee a successful outcome.
