Miraglia supports wars, reconnaissance, and cruiser aircraft

Giuseppe Miraglia served as a deployable aviation base in the Spanish Civil War and Second Italo-Ethiopian War while supporting seaplanes carried by other warships.

Notes

Wherever she anchored, Miraglia supplied reconnaissance and local aviation support without depending entirely on the Regia Aeronautica. Her service in the Spanish Civil War and Second Italo-Ethiopian War demonstrates that this was an operational system rather than a paper concept. The Navy's roughly seven-year interval without Europa or Miraglia exposed how difficult it was to organize long-range reconnaissance through cruiser-borne aircraft alone. Miraglia could also act as a forward depot for those cruiser seaplanes, exchanging or repairing aircraft and extending operations away from established home bases. The ship therefore supported both her own air group and a wider network of aviation distributed across the fleet.
