MH-60R Romeo as an off-board combat system

The Romeo upgrade turns the Seahawk into a flexible off-board system for sensors, weapons, ASW, surface targets, and support ashore.

Notes

The MH-60R was a major LAMPS Mark III Block II upgrade for squadrons replacing the SH-60B. Its early glass cockpit used multifunction displays from Lockheed Martin's helicopter-systems division. Jammers from BAE Systems and countermeasures formed part of the wider set of integrated mission equipment. Hellfire missiles widened its reach against small surface targets. The Romeo could also hunt submarines with some independence and support special forces or other parties ashore. An escort gained an off-board sensor and weapons platform that could undertake missions away from the ship. The upgrade widened the range of tasks available to its helicopter detachment.
