Aircraft wingspan and overall size could restrict carrier use even when the aircraft itself was useful. The Malta design had port and starboard catapults, with the port position suggested as the likely choice for larger aircraft. Four lifts combined two deck-edge positions with two on the centerline. A possible later alteration would remove the centerline lifts and add a starboard deck-edge lift outside the island. That change is presented as a future possibility, dependent on the space in the design.

Malta-class catapults and lifts for large aircraft
Port and starboard catapults offered a way to launch larger aircraft while lift changes remained a possible later adaptation.
