To move LCT(5)s over long distances, crews carried one on the upper deck of an LST. At the destination they pushed the smaller craft over the side, sending it into the sea after a drop of about ten feet. The launch looked punishing, yet the method worked in service. An LST could therefore transport another deployable landing vessel to a theater it could not readily reach under its own power.
