The LST Mark III was timed for the Pacific war

Frigate machinery, naval-yard construction, and external pontoons made the British Mark III a refined design timed for planned operations against Japan.

Notes

The LST Mark III carried external pontoons comparable in function to later Mexeflote systems and retained roughly the Mark II's tank and vehicle capacity. Frigate engines provided a modest speed increase, and yards accustomed to naval standards built the ships. Britain ordered eighty in 1943 for delivery by spring 1945, but the first arrived only in December 1944. Those dates place the design after D-Day and point toward the Pacific as its intended theatre. The plans discussed here included retaking Singapore and invading Japan.
