A hypothetical Lion with diesel and turbine machinery

One tested British response uses diesels for cruising and turbines for high speed in a hypothetical Lion-class battleship.

Notes

Other navies would reconsider their own requirements after recognising the endurance of the proposed German fleet. One version of the wargame therefore tested a different machinery arrangement for a Lion-class battleship. Diesel engines would provide cruising power through gearing, with turbines used for high speed. This experimental arrangement was tested within the alternate scenario. It illustrates how a German propulsion decision could change British ship design as well as operations.
