Small fleets gain local air cover without tying down fleet carriers

A thirty- to forty-aircraft light carrier can defend a small task group, support convoys, and cover secondary stations while fleet carriers remain concentrated.

Notes

A light carrier with thirty or forty aircraft gives a small task group its own local air defence and reconnaissance. It can also cover convoys and maintain presence on secondary stations. Those duties no longer have to draw a fleet carrier away from the main striking force. The value lies in distributing useful aviation across several commitments while keeping the largest decks concentrated.
