A six-ship programme across American yards

Six hulls divided among four American yards show the industrial reach of the programme.

Notes

The passage works through the hull numbers, planned names, dates, and builders for all six ships. The first four hulls went to Fore River, Newport News, and New York Shipbuilding, with Newport News receiving two. Philadelphia Naval Shipyard received CC-5 Constitution and CC-6 United States, both laid down on 25 September 1920, the same date given for Saratoga. With two hulls each at Newport News and Philadelphia, the six-ship programme engaged four yards. The distribution shows how much American shipbuilding capacity the Navy had committed before the treaty ended the class.
